Use the algebraic formula answer type to ask a question on the inverse of the function f(x)=ax3+b where a and b are integer constants.
You can check the solution on Number Empire.
Note that the local algebraic variable y is set to y={10:100:1e-9};, i.e. values equal to or larger than 10 in order to avoid a possible (negative number)^(1/3) = NaN in the answer ((y-b)/a)^(1/3) where b ranges from 2 to 9. This is because, in PHP, negative bases with fractional exponents always return NaN. (See for example http://php.net/manual/en/function.pow.php)
When you want to assign marks to each student's answer, it is easier to place the answers in different parts. However, there are also times when you want to place more than one answer in the same part. In this case, the score for the part is 100% only if all the answers are correct and 0% otherwise, that is, even if just one answer is incorrect. To assign marks individually to answers that are in the same part, it is necessary to use the grading criterion. The following example illustrates this case.
When you place more than one answer in the same part and the question behaviour is set to "Adaptive mode", the student receives a score of 0 if he fails to complete just one answer box. It is therefore preferable to set the question behaviour to "Interactive with multiple tries" because, in this mode, a message is displayed that reminds the student to provide an answer in all the answer boxes.
You will notice in the following example that all letters of the alphabet are defined as variables. This avoids a score of 0 if the student enters an incorrect variable name consisting of a letter of the alphabet. Note that a score of 0 is given for the part if the student enters any other incorrect variable name. This last point can be considered as a bug that will be corrected at a future date, but which does not prevent the use of the grading criterion as illustrated in the following example.
