The Formulas question type was written by Hon Wai Lau in about one year, in 2009 and 2010, after her Master studies in Physics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Hon Wai Lau's Formulas question type original project is on Google Code Archive. Note that the initial name "Coordinate" was later changed to "Formulas". Hon Wai Lau's original question type is compatible with Moodle 1.9 and 2.0.

Jean-Michel Védrine maintained the Formulas question type from its creation in 2010 until 2020 when he retired. He made a major upgrade of the plugin to the new question engine, introduced in Moodle 2.1.
